The Structures Group, Inc. (TSG) was originally awarded an annual contract to perform engineering services for VDFP in 2005. This contract was extended to five (5) years. TSG has since been awarded three (3) additional consecutive five (5) year annual contracts to perform engineering services for VDFP, with the latest awarded in November of 2021. There is no greater illustration of client satisfaction than in providing continued uninterrupted service.
TSG has provided consulting engineering services as the Prime Professional to the VDFP in developing the construction drawings, specifications, and order of magnitude cost estimates for the Fire Fighter I and II training facility prototypes for live fire training structures, formerly know as burn buildings, to be constructed within the Commonwealth of Virginia. These prototypes included Prototype 1 buildings (CMU/concrete) for both Class A and Class B fuels, Prototype 2 buildings (pre-engineered metal) for both Class A and Class B fuels, and Prototype 3 mobile units for Class B fuels. TSG has also updated these prototype construction drawings and specifications to the new editions of the building codes as they are adopted by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
TSG also performed the structural and life safety evaluation of fifty-three (53) existing live fire training facilities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The purpose of these evaluations was to determine the condition of the existing structures as well as identify any deficiencies that would result in unsafe firefighter training environments. Following our evaluations, remedial repair plans and order of magnitude cost estimates were also provided to facilitate remedial repairs and new construction within a 1.5 million dollar budget per year. TSG has also aided VDFP in reviewing proposed remedial repairs as well as construction drawings developed by the locality’s A/E to ensure compliance with VDFP standards and requirements.
Since 2005, TSG also acts as the A/E reviewing consultant for VDFP during the initial design and start-up of the twelve (12) new live fire training structures to be constructed within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Jointly developing a New Burn Building Check Sheet with VDFP, this design and start-up review consists of building code life safety requirements, VDFP prototype requirements, as well as determining if the designed live fire training structure provides an adequate facility to satisfy the VDFP Fire Fighter I and II training requirements.
