Governor’s Land at Two Rivers is a planned community nestled into 1,400 acres at the confluence of the James and Chickahominy Rivers in James City County, Virginia. With the Two Rivers Country Club property meandering 6,965 yards through the subdivision, crossing of sensitive non-tidal and tidal wetlands adjacent to these rivers is inevitable. The Structures Group, Inc.’s design of all bridges and tunnels for the Two Rivers Golf Course included the design of the four (4) timber bridges, in addition to the River Oaks Bridge, which respected the historic and environmental richness of the property.
- Each bridge was designed to facilitate 7-ton loading for emergency vehicle as well as maintenance vehicle traffic.
- Steel cables, hidden within the railings of the bridges, provided the necessary rail strength for maintenance vehicular traffic.
- The bridge designs, which range in length from 105 feet to 221 feet, included the award-winning 18th Hole Bridge (lower left) and the timber golf course bridge pictured below.
- The tunnels extend below the state routes within the subdivision.
- The 18th Hole Bridge design received an Honorable Mention Engineering Excellence Award from the Consulting Engineering Council of Virginia, as well as an Engineered Timber Bridge Award from the American Forest & Paper Association.
