Little Creek Reservoir Park Bridge
Little Creek Reservoir Park Bridge
Project Details
—
Designed to enhance James City County’s scenic 966-acre Little Creek Reservoir Park, this 156 foot long timber bridge crosses a finger of Lake Toano. The horizontal curved arched timber bridge spans across an inlet on the reservoir, with outlooks and gazebos, and was required to blend aesthetically into the park setting, while providing access to a peninsula within the park by pedestrians, maintenance, and emergency vehicles. Steel cables, hidden in the railings of the bridge, provide the necessary rail strength for maintenance vehicular traffic. The uniqueness of the design allowed the structure to be built from the deck, above the lake, eliminating the need for barges.
The bridge provides access to a section of the park once accessible only by water. TSG received an Award of Excellence for Outstanding Service to James City County.
