The Structures Group, Inc. (TSG) provided the structural condition review of the historic St. John’s Episcopal Church in the City of Hampton, Virginia.  St. John’s was constructed with Flemish bond brick in 1728 with a belfry added in 1762 and a bell tower added in the early 20th century. This church is on the National Register of Historic Places.  The structural review concentrated on the nature and extent of distress exhibited in the masonry and timber framing of the church. We concluded our review with a report delineating our observations and recommendations for remedial repairs, which included extensive repairs to the brick foundations and walls. The repairs recommendations included underpinning the foundation walls with helical steel piles to stabilize the foundation. TSG also conducted a structural review of the St. John’s Parish House and provided construction drawings for remedial repairs.
