Working as the structural consultant in a design/build format, The Structures Group, Inc. (TSG) provided the structural design and structural construction documents for the approximately 16,000 square foot Company Operations Facility and Operational Storage Facility for the transportation school located at Fort Lee near Petersburg, Virginia.  The 4.1 million dollar Company Operations Facility and Operational Storage Facility achieved a Gold USGBC LEED rating in the new construction program.

The structure was designed utilizing metal plate connected timber roof trusses supported by timber framed walls around the exterior and a combination of timber framed walls and structural steel framing throughout the interior.  Further, the structure, as well as all of the windows, was designed for blast resistance based on DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings, UFC 4-010-01.  Additionally, an armory was designed within the structure consisting of cast-in-place concrete walls and roof completely independent of the main structure. During the design phase, Building Information Modeling (BIM) was utilized in the creation of a building model to coordinate the architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing features of the structure.

TSG also provided the construction administration of the structural components during construction, as well as serving as the Agent 1 Special Inspector as part of the building code required Special Inspections.
