As the structural engineer for the project, The Structures Group, Inc. (TSG) performed the design and analysis of the temporary aluminum truss roof structure and staging for a one (1) day event held in conjunction with the Super Bowl festivities in Miami Florida.  We also performed the design and analysis of a two (2) story covered temporary aluminum truss structure to be used as a VIP lounge area across from the stage.

Particular attention was paid to the ballast and foundations for the two (2) temporary structures since the structures were to be erected on the beach where unobstructed oceanfront winds were anticipated and the foundations of the temporary structures were to bear directly on the unconsolidated beach sand.  Additionally, the two (2) structures were designed on a fast track schedule with analysis being performed simultaneous with the creation of construction drawings and shop drawings.  Further, as part of the permitting process, TSG coordinated the design drawings prepared by TSG with the shop drawings prepared by the client along with staging shop drawings prepared by a subcontractor to facilitate quick approval by the local building officials.  The entire project was designed, analyzed, permitted, shop fabricated, erected, inspected, and taken down within a six (6) week period that included the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
