The Structures Group, Inc. (TSG) helped to oversee the relocation of the original structure to its new site adjacent to the James City County Library in Norge, and its subsequent renovation and conversion into a museum and meeting facility. The historic train station was lifted and transported as a single structure from the south side of the railroad tracks across Farm Lane and secondary roads to its new location on the Norge side of the railroad tracks, one (1) mile west of its original location. The train station is listed on both the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
Working with the James City Historical Commission for this relocation and renovation project, TSG provided stabilization guidance during the relocation and foundation design, as well as the VUSBC required Agent 1 Special Inspections for the historic 1,525 square foot train station building.
Attention to detail coupled with knowledge of historic structures and experience with moving structures, combined with thorough inspections by TSG, resulted in the timely completion of the relocation and exterior renovation of the historic structure was achieved within the $95,000 budget.
