At the joint request of the County of Mathews and the Rappahannock Community College administration, The Structures Group, Inc. (TSG) provided the structural and seismic analysis of the existing one (1) story, approximately 56,000 square foot Glenns Campus Rappahannock Community College building located at 12745 College Drive in Glenns, Virginia. Our analysis concentrated on the adequacy of the existing structure to serve as an emergency shelter in accordance with the current edition of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC). To facilitate this study, TSG had to also comply with all requirements for such a shelter stipulated by the Bureau of Capital Outlay Management (BCOM). The structural and seismic analysis concluded with a report delineating TSG’s findings and remedial repair alternatives for the structure to serve as an emergency shelter meeting a deadline set by the BCOM of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
