Williamsburg Players Theater
County of York, Virginia
The construction of the new 6,580 square foot addition to the Williamsburg Players Theater and renovation to the existing 3,700 square foot building is the culmination of a nearly 10-year dream of the Owner to expand their 100 seat venue into the largest community theater space on the Peninsula with 320 seats. The Structures Group, Inc. (TSG) provided the structural design, construction documents, bid and award services, third party special inspections, as well as construction administration services for the project.
At the Owner’s request, TSG took over the role of prime professional as the project moved from the design phase into the construction phase. TSG also interviewed prospective GMP contractors, coordinating the evaluation of value engineering options during the GMP negotiations, providing notice of award, and development of contract documents for the Owner-Contractor agreement. TSG also provided third party special inspections of the cast-in-place concrete footings, slabs, steps, ramps, masonry and timber walls, pre-engineered roof trusses, structural steel framing, and precast concrete wall and ceiling panels. Additionally, as part of the construction administration services, TSG reviewed and certified all applications for payment and aggressively reviewed the schedule to ensure that the Contractor was able to meet the substantial completion date and achieve a Certificate of Occupancy in advance of the Owner’s first show.
